GGGA Student Harley Dubsky Wins AJGA Midwest Jr Players
July 19, 2012
GGGA student Harley Dubsky went wire-to-wire to win the AJGA Midwest Junior Players Championship Thursday.
Dubsky, who has been a student in Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy since the spring of 2011, carded a final round 75 to put the finishing touches on her first AJGA win.
Dubsky, 16 of Valparaiso, Ind., finished the 54-hole event at 2-over-par 218 (71-72-75) at Hilton Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, Ill.
A birdie on No. 1 got Dubsky off to just the start she was looking for in the final round. However, she quickly faced a tough stretch from Nos. 2-6, as she carded two bogeys and double.
Dubsky promptly steadied the ship from there though, regaining the form she displayed in the first two rounds. Dubsky went on to make six straight pars and finished the back nine at even par to card a 3-over 75 for the three-shot win in the Girls Division.
A 1-under 71 in the first round gave Dubsky a one-shot lead. She then followed with an even-par 72 and held the lead all the way through while playing the back nine at par or better to close out every round.
Dubsky’s AJGA win was only a matter of time. In April, she tied for second at the AJGA Under Armour/ Vicky Hurst Championship to go along with a T9 at the AJGA Junior All-Star at Stonelick Hills last summer.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Midwest Junior Players Championship was a 54-hole stroke play competition played on the par-72, Hilton Indian Lakes Resort - Highland/Woodland Courses. The event featured 108 boys and 36 girls, ages 12-18, from 17 states and Thailand. The Boys Division played the course at 6,838 yards while the Girls Division played the course at 5,845 yards.
