GGGA students earn spots at Callaway Junior Worlds by winning qualifiers

Three GGGA students qualified for the 2012 Callaway Junior World Championship Sunday by winning their division qualifier at Rio Pinar Golf Club in Orlando.

Luis Enriquez won the Boys 15-18 Division with a two-day score of 142. Mai Dechathipat won the Girls 13-14 Division after firing a 5-under 67 in the final round to finish at 6-under 138, and Maggie Beth Byers took the Girls 15-18 Division after carding a 1-under 71 to finish at 4-over-par 148.

Two other GGGA students also qualified with solid play. In the Boys 15-18 division, Santiago Lopez and Tiger Lee also earned spots by finishing second and third.

All three are students in the Full-Time Junior Program at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy.

The 2012 Callaway Junior World Championships will take place July 9-13 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif.

The Callaway Junior World Golf Championships is the largest international event in the world and is unique for its international representation and cultural diversity.

Past champions include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Yani Tseng, David Toms, Corey Pavin, Lorena Ochoa, and may other notables.
