By GGGA Team on June 9, 2011
If things continue the way their going, the LPGA State Farm Classic might be an all Gilchrist coached final come Sunday.
Seven Gilchrist coached pros finished under par in the first round – six of which are in the top 20 – of the Springfield, Ill. event, led by none other than world No. 1 Yani Tseng.
Tseng got off to a tough start with a bogey at the first at Panther Creek Country Club, but she rebounded with four straight pars before grabbing an eagle on No. 6. Tseng then birdied Nos. 8, 12, 13 and 15 to finish at 5-under-par. She sits in a tie for fourth and is three back of Mindy Kim, who fired a 8-under 64.
Right in the mix with Tseng are Morgan Pressel and Shanshan Feng who both carded 68s and are tied for eighth.
One back of them are Sophie Gustafson, Karen Stupples and Reilley Rankin at 3-under in a pack of 12 players tied for 18th.
Nicole Hage shot a 1-under 71 and is T55.
